The Lake Murray Association celebrated its 25th anniversary this month.
The association was founded in May of 1994 with the help of the Lake Hartwell Association.
Jim Landreth and Bill Argentieri of SC Electric & Gas worked closely with the LMA in the early years.
Bob Keener, LMA’s 1st president, said, “I was privileged to have been one of the founders. It is a worthwhile and rewarding effort to get more people involved to help keep the lake safe and ensure high-quality water.”
Joy Downs, a founding member said, “The association has developed many projects, the famous Ladies Day on the Lake, 4-H20, built Osprey Nests, helps in water testing, Tour of Homes, and the Safety Consortium continues to work with law enforcement.
The association charter states it was formed to provide a means of communication and enlighten its membership in matters that pertain to the protection, restoration, and utilization of the waters of Lake Murray and its shoreline community.
The LMA provides information and education on issues related to the development, management, and environmental studies to enhance the health and safety for Richland, Lexington, Newberry, and Saluda counties. “Lake Murray Association wants to have a connection to all who use Lake Murray,” said Downs.
