Late Rally by Bacon Hands Blowfish Their 11th Straight Loss

Posted

Through six innings Wednesday at Luther Williams Field, the Lexington County Blowfish appeared poised to snap its longest losing streak since moving from Columbia in 2014.

Coastal Plain League All-Star Carson Starnes threw six scoreless innings and the Macon Bacon committed five errors in trailing 1-0.

It all changed in the bottom of the seventh inning. A 5-run rally put Macon ahead 5-1 and sent the Blowfish to their 11th straight loss.

All-Star Brock Vradenburg put Lexington County up with an RBI single in the third inning. The Blowfish could not build upon the lead as it stranded 11 baserunners and were held to six hits, two by Elijah Lambros.

Starnes kept the Bacon bats silent in allowing just four hits and striking out two. It all changed to lead off the seventh as Mason Minzey tied the game with a solo home run.

After Andrew Blake followed with a single and Davis Heller walked, Starnes was relieved by Beau Ross. The first batter he faced, Carter Sanford, hit an RBI single to give the Bacon the 2-1 lead.

Macon picked up two more runners following a throwing error by third baseman Billy Amick on a groundball hit by Javon Fields. He advanced to third on a wild pitch by Ross, giving the Blowfish a league-leading 56 on the season, and scored on Holden Breeze’s single.

Lexington County (10-19, 0-5) remains the only West Division team with a victory during the second half of the season. The Blowfish play host to Savannah at 7:05 p.m.
