Latest hurricane did little damage

While many were still recovering from Hurricane Florence, Hurricane Michael brought heavy rains, trees down and some flooding. The Chapin area had minimal damage with just a few trees down. Irmo had flooding and more damage to homes.

A big thank you to the Irmo Fire Department, which helped save a 15-pound pet turtle and moved it to a safer place.

Does your bucket list include learning how to do a watercolor painting? The Crooked Creek Art League is having a watercolor painting class Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. at Crooked Creek Park. Email crookedcreekartleague@gmail.com for information.

The November School board elections are critically important. Irmo and Chapin voters get to decide who leads the District 5 schools.

A School Board Candidate Forum is scheduled at Irmo Middle School Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. Citizens can email their questions for the candidates to d5treacherforum@gmail.com. The new district security measures will be enforced, so arrive early.

We all have much more than we need, and those unused items hiding in closets, garages, and storage units can bring us some much-needed cash just in time for Christmas.
