Letter to the Editor: Aug. 31, 2025: A Day of Remembrance

Posted

The Courage Center (TCC) in Lexington continues to partner with state and local organizations to host remembrance events for those whose loved ones have died by drug overdose in Lexington County.

Parents and family members who have experienced this tragic loss are the primary organizers of the Lexington annual event which is in its fourth year. While fatal overdoses are trending downward in the state and in the county, efforts continue to further decrease fatal and nonfatal overdoses using evidence-based practices.

“We know that the best predictor of a fatal overdose, is a prior nonfatal overdose. The Courage Center and its partners are proactive in our outreach activities and continue to outreach to those who experience a nonfatal overdose, provide naloxone (Narcan) to the community, and work to engage people in our no-cost recovery services,” Executive Director of TCC Randy Rush said.

There are two overdose awareness events in the county this year in the afternoon of Aug. 31, which is the International Overdose Awareness Day. Depending on locations and schedules, all residents are invited to attend a remembrance event which is a time of healing and fellowship for the family members and loved ones.

Please show your support: Aug. 31 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church on Barr Road in the Fellowship Hall in Lexington and Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. at 830 Main St. in Pelion, S.C.
