Ashley Fouty, an assistant principal at Pleasant Hill Middle School, has been named the 2025 South Carolina Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA).

Fouty was recognized for her outstanding leadership and transformative contributions to the school, with initiatives that have improved the educational experience, particularly for students with disabilities.

A graduate of Gilbert High School, Fouty earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of South Carolina before going on to complete a Master’s in Teaching and a Master’s in Educational Administration.

She began her career as an English teacher at White Knoll High School, where she worked until 2021. That year, she transitioned into her current role at Pleasant Hill Middle School as assistant principal.

At Pleasant Hill Middle, Fouty has started innovative structures such as Empower and Cougar Café, which has enhanced outcomes for students with disabilities, the press release said.

Fouty will represent South Carolina in the national competition for Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year.

Superintendent of Lexington County School District One, Gerrita Postlewait, praised Fouty for her leadership.

“A talented and dedicated instructional leader, Pleasant Hill Middle Assistant Principal Ashley Fouty empowers teachers and students to learn, grow, and excel," Postlewait said. "She supports the creation of strong professional learning communities that lead to the development of high-quality learning opportunities for students. Her Lexington One family congratulates her on this much-deserved honor.”

Throughout her time as an assistant principal, Fouty has built relationships and fostered a supportive learning environment, the principal of Pleasant Hill Middle School Julie Painter said.

“Ashley Fouty is an exemplary assistant principal who has made a significant, positive impact at Pleasant Hill Middle where she encourages all students to ‘Be Committed. Be Caring. Be Courageous.’’

The SCASA, founded in 1975, represents over 5,200 educators across South Carolina, including assistant principals, principals, district leaders, college of education deans and retired school leaders.

The organization is dedicated to advocating for quality public education, providing leadership development and support for school administrators.
