Lexington 1’s Clamp to transition to Charleston school district

Posted

Lexington County School District One’s Luke Clamp is moving into a deputy superintendent position with the Charleston County School District in the upcoming school year. Clamp currently serves as Secondary Schools Executive Director for Lexington One and was the founding principal of River Bluff High School.

According to the Charleston County School District website, an “extensive interview process” was conducted. The district made the announcement on April 29.

The deputy superintendent position will supervise and advise leadership while working alongside Superintendent Anita Huggins, Clamp said.

Charleston County School District is one of the biggest districts in the state, as listed on its website, and they serve more than 50,000 students.

“We believe leadership is service,” Clamp said. “I’ll get to help love and lead the 51,000 students.”

Clamp said he is grateful for his time at Lexington One and is looking forward to helping lead another district.

“Lexington One gave me my first job in leadership at Lexington High School,” Clamp said, adding that credit is due to students, faculty and staff. “I was honored to be chosen to lead River Bluff. My wife and I got to serve that community.”

As for transitioning to the Charleston County district, Clamp explains he and his wife did their share of research about the school district and when the opportunity opened up, he decided it was the right one, pointing to his faith as a key element in his decision.

According to the district’s website, Clamp was chosen by an initial interview team consisting largely of external panelists. The candidates in the initial round completed a writing sample, presented a blinded data presentation and participated in a question-and-answer period. As a finalist, he went on to interview with the superintendent of schools and with the superintendent’s cabinet.

“Dr. Clamp is a data-driven, strategic educator whose efforts garner success for all students,” Superintendent of Schools Anita Huggins said. “A systems leader, he was selected as a result of his breadth of experience, proven leadership skills, and dedication to advancing educational outcomes for all students. Dr. Clamp’s standout career has prepared him to join a CCSD team committed to putting students’ needs first.”
