The next wave of Lexington County college athletes signed their national letters of intent last week, officially stamping their commitments to their schools. 

In all, 74 local athletes participated in the festivities. Dutch Fork led the way with 13 commitments, including 12 players from the state championship-winning football team. 

Lexington and Chapin each had 11 athletes sign. Irmo had 10 athletes, and Gray Collegiate had nine. White Knoll has seven athletes sign, River Bluff had six and Gilbert had four. Pelion, Swansea and Northside Christian each had one.

Many of the athletes will be staying close to home and attending schools in South Carolina. Limestone, Newberry and the Citadel were popular choices. 

A few athletes signed to big-name, out-of-state schools, including Texas A&M, West Virginia and Army West Point. Two athletes committed to the University of South Carolina.
