Lexington County basketball players earn All-State honors

Posted

The South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association released their boys and girls selections for the 2025 All-State teams for all five league classifications.

Nine local athletes earned a spot, representing five different Lexington County schools. Some of the athletes earned their second All-State nod, while others claimed their first.

Around the same time, the SCISA coaches announced their North and South All-Star teams. At the 4A level, four Northside Christian athletes earned a spot, including three members of its girls team.

River Bluff’s Yasir Cromer and Dutch Fork’s Michaela Fairwell became two-time All-State selections.

Fairwell led the Silver Foxes to their second consecutive region championship and helped the team earn the No. 1 overall seed in the 5A Division I Upper State bracket. She averaged 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals per game this season.

The senior ended her career as one of the most impactful players in Dutch Fork history. She scored over 1,500 career points and will play college ball at UC San Diego.

Cromer is also a multi-time All-State winner and led River Bluff to a successful season where they finished second in region and made it to the third round of the playoffs.

The Gators' star took a huge step up this season as a scorer. He averaged a career-high 19 points and also served as the team’s main facilitator.

River Bluff was eliminated in the third round of the playoffs. Cromer finished his high school career as the program’s all-time leading scorer and first player to surpass the 1,000-point mark.

He will continue his career in college at Francis Marion University next year.

Seven athletes are first-time honorees.

Dutch Fork boys duo Bryson Taylor and Justus Bell earned a spot on the 5A team. Taylor and Bell were two of the most critical players to the Silver Foxes' success this season.

The pair led Dutch Fork to a region championship and first-round bye. The team went 10-1 in region and won 20 games for the first time since 2020.

On the 5A girls side, Izzy Saville earned her first All-State honor after leading Lexington in scoring and assists this season. She averaged career highs across the board and led the Wildcats to second place in their region.

Saville is a multi-sport athlete at Lexington and will transition from the court to the field for lacrosse, where she is also an extremely decorated player.

Gray Collegiate’s Levi Ball and L.J. Britt were selected to the 4A boys All-State team. It was the first season for Gray in 4A after dominating at the 2A level.

Britt and Ball were two of the team’s most consistent players this season. Gray finished second in the region standings behind North Augusta but split the regular season series. The two met for a third time in the playoffs and Gray lost a narrow battle.

Ball, a junior, can return next season and help the team try another run next year. Britt, a senior, concludes his Gray Collegiate career as a multi-time state champion at the 2A level.

The only 2A player from Lexington County was Batesburg-Leesville’s Ta’Maj Gilliam. He was the leading scorer on a surprise Batesburg-Leesville squad that won its region title.

Gilliam averaged 16 points during his junior season and can come back next year and help the Panthers defend their title.

In SCISA, four Northside players earned a spot on the 4A All-Star team.

Hilton Dessausure was the only player on the boys team to earn a spot.

Evie Godfrey, Campbell Childers and Chaelyn Tifre all earned a spot representing the girl team. It was a historic year for the girls team. They had their best record in program history and made the playoffs for the third year in a row, mostly thanks to the leadership of those three girls.

Neither Godfrey, Childers or Tifre are seniors, so all three can return next year and give Northside a chance to get even better.
