Lexington County Blowfish to play as ‘Hooties’ in June

Posted

The Lexington County Blowfish aren’t always the Blowfish.

In the past, they’ve donned special jerseys and hats to become the Glowfish and the Pancakes, and now they’re teaming with one of the Midlands’ biggest-ever musical exports to transform once again.

On June 16, the collegiate wood bat team will take the field as the Hooties, partnering with the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation to make what should be a considerable donation to the Lexington Medical Center Foundation.

The one-off jerseys for the night were designed by Skye Design Studios, which a release describes as a “national leader in sports branding with clients that include Major League Baseball, the NBA and a variety of colleges and universities.” The jerseys will be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting Lexington Medical’s charitable arm.

“The Shanahans as well as the Blowfish organization’s commitment to the Lexington Medical Center Foundation allows us to lift burdens from our patients, our employees and our community through powerful and life-saving programs and resources,” Lexington Medical Center Foundation Executive Director Amy Lanier is quoted. “It’s an honor to be a part of ‘Hooties’ night with the Blowfish!”

The jerseys feature the “Hooties” name and logo across the chest and a treble staff with the team’s regular name on the back.

The Hootie & the Blowfish foundation will match the proceeds raised from auctioning the jerseys up to $10,000.

“The Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation is proud to partner with the Lexington County Blowfish Baseball Club to provide a matching gift for the Lexington Medical Center Foundation and help provide assistance to community members of the Midlands through its many great programs and initiatives,” Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation Director Chris Carney is quoted.

The Blowish begin their 2023 campaign May 26 with a road game against the Boone Bigfoots, returning the next day to open their home slate with a second game against Boone.

The weekend of June 16 will be a big one for the team, as it will host the Coastal Plain League All-Star Show June 18-19. It will be the second time that the league’s all-star festivities have taken place in Lexington.
