A Lexington County deputy has been critically injured in a crash near Gaston.

Officials said Deputy Cameron Cain was responding in his patrol car July 27 to a call about a suicidal person.

Enroute, he was hit by the driver of a vehicle in the oncoming lane on Meadowfield Road.

Other cars had stopped to let emergency vehicles through.

Cain suffered critical neck, head, and facial injuries.

He was in the hospital more than a week for several surgeries.

He is home now recovering from his injuries.

Deputy Cain has been a member of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department since July 2016.

“I am so grateful that Cameron is going to recover from this accident,” said his wife Jessica.

“The gratitude is overwhelming. There has been so much support from Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, other wives, family, and friends.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”

Serve & Connect has created a fund to support Cain and his family to help with his recovery and other unexpected costs.
