Lexington County Drop 3-2 Heartbreaker to Hi-Toms

An eighth inning rally enabled High Point-Thomasville to defeat the Lexington County Blowfish 3-2 Monday in a Coastal Plain League West Division contest.

Braylin Marine put the Blowfish up 1-0 in the top of the third inning with a solo home run.

Lexington County starter Carson Starnes held the Hi-Toms scoreless through the first five innings. Irmo graduate Parker White also pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings before he was relieved with two outs in the seventh by Airport graduate Dalton Mims.

After catching a pop out at first base to end the seventh inning, Brock Vrandenburg hit a leadoff single in the top of the eighth inning. He then scored off a double by Ryan Ouzts and a throwing error by the Hi-Toms.

The Blowfish had two outs in the bottom of the eighth when Tripp Haddad lined a double off Mims past Vrandenburg at first base and scored on Jose Vargas' single.

Eli Weisner then took Mims' 3-2 pitch over the fence for a two-run homer to put the Hi-Toms on top.

Lexington County looked to tie in the top of the ninth inning. Grant Bodison and David Cromer drew leadoff walks, but Synder responded with two straight strikeouts and fielded a groundball by Marine for a putout to end the game.

The Blowfish (2-2) return to action Tuesday at home against the Macon Bacon. It's "Dog Day Tuesday" as pet canines get free admission with a paid ticket by their owners and can participate in a "Pooch Parade" during the game.
