An annual Lexington County Memorial Day service was held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home on Monday, May 26. Many veterans, active-duty service members, EMS, Lexington police officers and others came to the special service.

The memorial service began at 10 a.m. with Hamp Caughman welcoming everyone. Pastor David Ford gave the invocation and afterward led the Pledge of Allegiance. Dawn Day Jacobs led the audience in the national anthem. SSG Shawn Buegel and Sgt. Martin Hubeaut performed the Table for One POW/MIA ceremony. Afterward, Pastor Mike Carter sang “God Bless the USA.”

Hamp Caughman recognized the Gold Star families, the dignitaries and the first responders. Ed Lundeen spoke about Veterans Affairs, and afterward, Jackie Day Frye played the military branch songs, with veterans standing as their branch of service song was played.

Hamp Caughman introduced the guest speaker, Capt. Joey Driskell. He was deployed several times between 2001 and 2014, including time in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has training experience in Search and Rescue Swimmer School, the Seaman to Admiral Program and Navy SEAL training. Afterward, Pastor Mike Carter sang “Under God.”

The service ended with David Griffith, past commander of American Legion Post 7, playing taps and Pastor David Ford giving the benediction and closing prayer. A time of fellowship and refreshments followed the service.
