Richard Channing Shealy, 53, of Lexington County was arrested on March 26 on 13 charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors.

Investigators say Shealy distributed and possessed files of child sexual abuse material, according to a press release from the office of South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson.

The case began after investigators discovered files sexually exploiting minors being shared online. Shealy was later arrested by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department and charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, second degree, and 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, third degree.

The second degree charges, according to the attorney general's release, are punishable by two to 10 years of imprisonment per count, while the third degree charges are punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment per count.

Shealy's bond hearing was today at 3 p.m. at the Lexington County Detention Center.

"Attorney General Wilson stressed that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law," the press release read, additionally noting that "Child sexual abuse material, or CSAM, is a more accurate reflection of the material involved in these heinous and abusive crimes. 'Pornography' can imply the child was a consenting participant. Globally, the term child pornography is being replaced by CSAM for this reason."

Shealy has a website detailing his career as a singer, songwriter and worship leader, with involvement in Lexington area churches.
