Michael Boyd Harvey, II, 53, of Lexington County, pleaded guilty on Thursday, Sept. 4, to domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, a crime classified as both serious and violent under South Carolina law.
Harvey was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
A news release states Harvey physically assaulted the victim over an extended period of time on Aug. 26, 2024. He punched, kicked and beat her, which caused her to suffer a stroke, investigators said.
The victim also sustained severe injuries, including bruising and swelling to her face, head, neck, chest and body. Four fingers on her right hand were amputated, and her left arm is now paralyzed.
She was transported to Prisma Health Richland Hospital, where she remained for several months.
Authorities said Harvey fled the scene after a relative called 9-1-1. Detectives with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested him 10 days later.
The release stated Harvey has prior convictions for assault and driving under the influence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Solicitor Dante Esposito and Senior Assistant Solicitor Robby McNair. The Lexington County Sheriff's Department conducted the investigation.
Harvey will serve his sentence at the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
