Lexington County Museum awarded grants to support preservation of museum property

Posted

The Lexington County Museum recently received funds from the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation and Dominion Energy that can be used for maintenance of the 30 historic structures on museum property, as well as preservation of the museum’s historic collections.

The Jenrette Foundation, founded in 1993 by American businessman and philanthropist Richard Hampton Jenrette, works to benefit education, innovation and stewardship of historic preservation efforts.

The grant from Dominion Energy will help cover the cost of supplies used in the museum's educational programs. These programs are free of charge for children’s groups and offer hands-on opportunities to learn about the history of Lexington County and the Dutch Fork region through interactive activities.

“Founded in 1970, the Lexington County Museum focuses on Lexington County’s history from the colonial period to the Civil War. It interprets everyday life in the county through historic structures and locally-made artifacts, including furniture, textiles, weapons, and pottery,” the press release read.
