Lexington County road, bridge work planned

State officials plan to pave or repair 21 Lexington County roads in the next 12 months. They are:

• Hwy. 378 at Charter Oak Rd.

• Augusta Hwy. at Peach Festival Rd.

• Peach Festival Rd. at Spring Hill Rd.

• Wessinger Rd. at Richland County Line

• Fish Hatchery Rd. at Hwy. 6

• Shadowbrook Dr. at Piney Grove Rd.

• Harmon St. at Azalea St.

• Challedon Dr. at St. Andrews Rd.

• Amick St. at Church St.

• Chicorana Rd. at Laurel-crest Rd.

• Hudson Ave. at Granite Hill Rd.

• Smith St. at Rawls St.

• Aiken St. at Columbia Ave.

• First St. at N. Church St.

• Fiddlers Branch Rd. at Hookland Ln.

• Neely Wingard Rd. at Pond Branch Rd.

• Terrace View at Robin Crest Rd.

• Railroad Ave. at Swartz Rd.

• Lost Spring Rd. at Fiddler Branch The total amount of road and bridge work underway exceeded $3 billion so far this year. In year 1, the Department of Transportation awarded contracts covering 2,200 miles of roads. That’s expected to double as the gas tax increase phases in. The SCDOT Commission approved an additional $417 million for 600 miles of paving for year 2 of the project that began July 1. Secretary of Transportation Christy Hall said employing a strategic 10-year plan is contributing to the success. “We have held to the plan during its first year which produced better-than-expected results,” she said.
