Posted

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department was recently announced as a recipient of a 2024 ARCC grant given by the South Carolina Department of Aging as a part of celebrating National Family Caregivers Month in November.

The sheriff’s department received $20,000 for innovative programs for those who have been impacted by memory-related diseases such as Alzheimer's or dementia. These grants are awarded on a two-year cycle.

These grants were created to help “develop, enhance, and implement respite, educational, and innovative programs for families and caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias,” the press release read.

These awards are given by the Alzheimer’s Resource Coordination Center with assistance from the South Carolina Department of Aging (SCDOA).

“We are blessed as a state to have passionate supporters who strive to assist caregivers and their families. Grantees’ assistance with respite, education, and innovative programs for persons living with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias is invaluable,” SCDOA director Connie Munn said in the press release.

“We must do all we can to support our caregivers which entails ensuring they are aware of the resources available to them,” Munn said.
