Another week of lacrosse action has passed, and teams are set to begin their final stretch of games before the playoffs.
The region standings are starting to shape up on the boys and girls sides after last week featured some notable contests between some of the area’s heaviest hitters.
The marquee matchup was between the Chapin and Lexington teams, as both the boys and girls were undefeated in region games entering their games.
Chapin’s girls are the defending 5A champions and finished ahead of Lexington in the region last year after going 8-0. The Wildcats avenged last year’s loss and put themselves in the driver's seat, earning the only win of the season series this year.
The Wildcats dominated in the game thanks to an explosive offensive attack and an amazing performance in goal from Emersin Clamp. She saved 19 of Chapin’s 25 shots on goal for a new season-high. It was the second time this season she finished with over 10 saves.
Offensively, Lilly Sundell led the way with five goals. Izzy Saville scored four, Anna Barger had three and Lauren Bowers scored twice.
Lexington began this week 5-0 in region games with Chapin and River Bluff close behind at 3-1. Dutch Fork is below those two, coming into this week 3-2 in region games.
The Wildcats have two conference games to go this season. Winning both would guarantee the team a championship, but losing one could create multiple tie-breaker scenarios. The team will play Blythewood this Wednesday before traveling to River Bluff next week in a game that will have major implications.
Like the Lexington girls, the Chapin boys are seeking to dethrone last year’s region champions after finishing second to the Lexington boys in 2024.
In their meeting this year, the Eagles got the better of the Wildcats, winning 14-8. Chapin is now 4-0 in region games and looking good after a shaky string of performances in non-region games.
The Eagles have conference games against Dutch Fork and Spring Valley left on their schedule. But the team’s final three non-conference games will also be worth following as the team prepares to tackle the postseason.
While Lexington and Chapin are the two teams at the top of the boys and girls standings, the other teams below them have plenty going on and have looked impressive themselves at certain points this season.
River Bluff’s teams are close behind the Eagles and Wildcats in both standings. The Gator boys are tied with Lexington in region games, sitting at 3-1 apiece with a future meeting still on the schedule. The girls are tied with Chapin but lose the tiebreaker after falling to the Eagles 11-7 in their earlier meeting.
Dutch Fork is a spot behind River Bluff as both their girls and boys teams have two region losses this season. The Silver Foxes can move up or down during the final weeks and will face tough competition with games against Chapin and Blythewood.
Beyond that, the rest of the teams in Lexington County are trying to end the year on a right note after a season of high and low points.
The lacrosse playoffs will begin at the end of April, and the state championship games will be played in early May.
Olivia Turner scored nine goals in Dutch Fork’s win 17-7 over Aiken.
Emersin Clamp had 19 saves while facing 25 shots on goal as Lexington earned a key region win over Chapin.
Phoenix Briggs scored five goals and added five assists for White Knoll in the team’s narrow win over Blythewood.
Eden Smith finished with four goals and two assists in Chapin’s win against Lakeside.
Derrick Weed had four goals as the Dutch Fork boys beat Spring Valley.
