The South Carolina Forestry Commission has issued a burn ban for all counties, including Lexington County. This ban will stay in effect until further notice.
This ban prohibits all outdoor burning including yard debris burning, prescribed burning and campfires.
According to the State Forestry Commission, due to lack of rain and low humidity, the state of South Carolina has seen 102 wildfire ignitions. While many of the wildfires have been in the Pee Dee region, the rest of South Carolina is experiencing an uptick in wildfires.
Forecasted winds have led to these fires spreading rapidly and growing larger. On Sunday, Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency for South Carolina.
An announcement will be made by the Forestry Commission when the ban is lifted.
