A Lexington County man accused of sharing child sexual abuse material online faces two felony charges with a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, according to South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson’s office.
Authorities say 49-year-old Roy Beshara Divine West of Lexington distributed and possessed digital files containing explicit images of children. A tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led to an investigation by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Investigators arrested West on July 16, charging him with second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Each charge is punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.
The S.C. Attorney General’s Office, which assisted Lexington County deputies in the investigation, will prosecute West on the charges.
All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court, the attorney general’s office said in a Monday release announcing the arrest.
