Lexington Opens Cats Kick Cancer Kickoff with Shutout Win

Capital City Cup Heads into Fourth Day

Preseason boys soccer continued Friday in Chronicle Country with the opening day of the Cats Kick Cancer Kickoff Classic at Lexington High School.
Before opening defense of the tournament title with a 5-0 shutout of Summerville, the host team Wildcats held a pregame check presentation to the Lexington One Reading Foundation. Executive Director Julie Washburn was presented a $3,500 from the sale of bracelets by the team for the goal of raising funds to help treat cancer patients in the district.
The team hopes to raise further donations this week from ticket sales and donations. Since the inception of Cats Kick Cancer over 10 years ago, the team has raised over $100,000 to help cancer patients attend Camp Kemo.
As for the game, Kenny Kwizera scored two goals in less than a minute and Boyd Coates, Franklin Spires and Christian Vallejo all scored in the shutout.
The Day 1 results rounded out with more shutouts. West Florence blanked Irmo 4-0, Mauldin over South Aiken 3-0 and Sumter defeated Gaffney 3-0.
Meanwhile, the Capital City Classic completed its third day of games around the Midlands.
