Lexington owner sells 93.1 The Lake

Midlands Media Group has acquired Lexington radio station WZMJ, 93.1 The Lake.

Long-time Lexington resident and Lake Murray Communications founder Mike Willis is the seller.

The transition could take a few weeks.

The new owners have not announced what type of music will be playing on 93.1 The Lake.

Midlands Media Group originated in 2016 with acquisition of 94.3 The Dude (WWNQ), Cola Daily online newsletter and e-commerce ColaDailyDeals.com.

MMG also created an online radio channel FIZZ - The Sound of Soda City.

The transmitter for WZMJ, 93.1 The Lake is in Summit in Lexington County.

MMG owners Kirk Litton and Keith Stover announced the 93.1 acquisition July 25.

Litton said the addition of 93.1 demonstrates MMG’s local commitment.

“Since forming Midlands Media just 2 years ago when we acquired WWNQ 94.3 The Dude, we have continued to invest in our home market and want to thank our local sponsors and listeners for making the latest expansion possible,” he said.

Stover said it’s exciting to grow MMG in the Midlands with a station that will compliment The Dude, the only locally owned and operated country music station here.

“We see terrific opportunities for 93.1 WZMJ as another strong, locally-programmed station serving our community and expanding the audience reach of the company.” he said.
