Lexington Police continue to investigate a July 2022 apartment shooting.

The department announced Tyler Robinson, 29, was shot and killed July 9, with evidence suggesting he was shot multiple times by several unknown suspects. In a release, the department adds that it is believed the attack was planned and that the suspects followed Robinson back from a club in downtown Columbia, shooting him when he arrived home to Lauren Ridge Apartments off Augusta Road/U.S. Highway 1.

Officers responded to the call at about 2 a.m., finding Robinson in an outside stairway.

“He was also known as “T-Rob” and “T-Rob Smooth,” the release says of Robinson. “He was a music promoter in the greater Columbia area, active in the local music scene, and co-founder and producer at Long Money Camp.”

Police say that after he was shot, Robinson was robbed of jewelry and a watch, and the suspects also burglarized his apartment before fleeing the scene.

“Detectives are searching for several pieces of custom jewelry and a watch that Tyler Robinson was believed to be wearing when he was killed which include a gold necklace and pendant with jewels with ‘Smooth’ and ‘LMC’, two jeweled gold rings, one with ‘$’ and the other with ‘LMC,’ and a jeweled gold watch,” the release states.

Police provided video of what they say is Robinson arriving home in his car and two suspects fleeing the scene. They also provided photos of Robinson with some of the stolen goods.

In the wake of the shooting, Lexington Police said they believed residents of the complex might have seen or heard the situation that led up to the shooting and that details, including a vehicle driven to the complex during the incident, may have been caught on security cameras.

A spokesperson for the department told the Chronicle that in the course of previous responses to Lauren Ridge for incidents including theft from motor vehicle and vandalism incidents, the department discussed a suggestion to install security cameras with management more than once. The spokesperson noted the complex wasn’t singled out in this regard, as cameras are brought up daily with businesses and residents in the community.

Management at Lauren Ridge didn’t respond to multiple attempts by the Chronicle to discuss whether the complex has security cameras and if they were installed before the July shooting.

Lexington Police request that anyone with information about the homicide, the people involved or the whereabouts of the missing watch and jewelry contact Detective Heath at (803) 951-4642 or kheath@lexsc.com.

Those with information can also contact at 1-888-274-6372, via midlandscromestoppers.com or the P3 Tips app.
