Lexington police will enforce safety in District 1 school zones over the next 2 weeks.
Traffic Safety officers will watch for speeders in school zones each morning and afternoon, Police Chief Terrence Green said.
All Lexington school zones are signed and most have flashing yellow caution lights to remind drivers to reduce speed.
October is National Pedestrian Safety Month.
With students walking to and from campus daily, officers will watch crosswalks to ensure the safety of crossing guards and those who are crossing the street.
“Every day over 100,000 vehicles travel through the Town of Lexington,” Chief Green said.
“Too many collisions are caused by impatient or distracted drivers.
“Almost every time, they could have been prevented with alert and safe drivers behind the wheel.”
This campaign will continue through Friday, Oct. 30.
