Lexington Post 7 reaches SC American Legion tournament

Entering the SC American Legion playoffs, top seed Lexington Post 7 had dropped its last 2 games.

After a 2-week layoff, head coach Drew Towery finally has the program back in the state tournament. This year, Lexington was among the final 8 teams competing in the weeklong, 8-team, double-elimination tournament which concludes Sunday at Segra Park.

“It puts us on the map,” said Towery about making the tournament following the 2nd round series win over West Columbia Post 79. “Obviously, we’ve been there with winning records and stuff like that, but we’ve never made it this far with me being the head coach. It finally puts us there and people can finally know that we’re the real deal.”

Lexington Post 7 opened this past Monday against a very familiar foe in Camden Post 17. 3rd seed Camden advanced after defeating Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24 in 3 games.

The 2 teams split their regular season meetings, both winning at home. This time, it was Camden as the road team Monday which won 7-6 at Lexington High School

Post 7 had trailed 6-2 when he scored 4 runs in the bottom 5th. Weston Lever of River Bluff had an RBI single, fellow Gator Ethan Plyler a 2-run double and Lexington’s Wells Sykes a sacrifice fly.

Jacob Jordan’s RBI double in the 7th gave Camden the win. Lexington faced Charleston Wednesday in an elimination game at James Island Charter High School.

FINAL SC AMERICAN LEGION POLL

1. Florence, 2. Fort Mill, 3. Charleston, 4. Lexington, 5. Inman, 6. Greer, 7. Camden, 8. Williamston
