On Feb. 10, Lexington-Richland School District Five will begin registration for its tuition-based pre-kindergarten program, Exposing Children to Early Learning (EXCEL).
The program is housed at Irmo Elementary School and runs from 7:50 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. On-site after-school care is available for an additional fee until 6 p.m.
The program includes mathematics, social studies, reading, science, art, physical education and foreign language.
According to the press release, enrollment is first-come, first-served and is limited to 20 students. All others will be placed on a waiting list.
Families must register at Irmo Elementary School with required documentation, including the child’s birth certificate, a South Carolina certificate of immunization and a nonrefundable $185 registration fee, which can be paid in cash or by check.
Parents will also need to complete a 4K EXCEL family contract and an application.
“The program at Irmo Elementary offers our 4-year-old students an educational experience that includes standards-based curriculum, ability-based instruction and special area classes, all taught by certified teachers,” Michael Guliano, the district’s director of elementary education, said in the press release. “It’s a great continuation of our efforts to make sure our community’s needs are met and students achieve success throughout their academic careers.”
