Lexington School District 1 Names Interim Superintendent

Lexington County’s largest school district has selected its short-term leader.

Lexington County School District 1 announced Tuesday the hiring of Gerrita Postlewait to serve as interim superintendent effective July 1. She takes over following the departure of Greg Little, who leaves the superintendent role at the end of the month to take on a leadership role with the S.C. Technical College System.

Postlewait most recently served as superintendent of the Charleston County School District, a post she resigned from after six years last December. That District is the second-largest in South Carolina (49,030 as of the most recent student headcount available from the state Department of Education). Lexington District 1 is the sixth-largest (27,672).

Lexington 1 stretches roughly from the county’s Southern shores of Lake Murray down to Pelion, and from Gilbert in the west to Oak Grove in the east.

“Dr. Postlewait is an experienced and highly-regarded educational leader with many years of experience,” District 1 Board Chair Anne Marie Green is quoted in a press release. “We are excited about her serving the Lexington District One community in this time of transition.”

The hiring of Postlewait was approved by a unanimous vote. She will be paid a monthly salary of $18,250.

The release notes her 22 years of experience, having “served as a school administrator in multiple states, serving in urban, suburban and rural communities throughout her career. She also spent nine years in educational roles in the private sector.”

According to the release, the District 1 board is in the midst of a search for a new permanent superintendent, which it hopes to complete by this fall.
