Lexington student earns top honor

Hoda Abdalla, daughter of Rugia Salih and Elrayah Osman, is the new American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation President.

The American Legion Auxiliary has provided young women with a summer citizenship training program for the past 70 years.

It is designed to provide practical insight into how the federal government works, to instill a sense of pride and loyalty to America, and create friendships and memories that last a lifetime.

Hoda won under the Federalist Party from among 100 attendees at the annual week-long event in Chevy Chase, Maryland, July 21 - 28.

Unit 7 Past President and Girls State Chairman, Linda Roemer said, “American Legion Auxiliary Unit 7 in Lexington is very proud of Hoda and her accomplishment.”

The rising Lexington High senior was selected to attend Girls Nation as a Senator by staff and peers after a week-long Palmetto Girls State Program at Presbyterian College earlier in June.

Hoda’s winning has afforded her the opportunity to sit down with Senators Lindsay Graham and Tim Scott and to visit with President Donald Trump.
