The Lexington Wildcats suffered their sixth loss of the season after being overpowered by the White Knoll Timberwolves. 37-6 last Friday night.
Lexington's lone score came off a flawless fake punt pass by quarterback Avery Coyle in the third quarter. The throw fell into the hands of Sawyer Headley, who made it all the way to the endzone.
White Knoll, though, was not deterred and kept their momentum by scoring two late touchdowns to seal the victory.
Lexington had plenty of chances to keep up with the Timberwolves.
The Wildcats' defense forced White Knoll to punt in Lexington territory during the first quarter. The kick was low and gave Lexington the ball on their own 26-yard line.
Lexington failed to take advantage of the situation and punted the ball back to the Timberwolves. White Knoll’s wide receiver Caleb Geronomi caught the ball with space to run, broke through Lexington's coverage and returned the punt for a 70-yard touchdown.
Feeling the pressure after another empty offensive possession, Lexington's defensive back William Brooks intercepted a pass in the end zone. This play prevented another White Knoll touchdown early in the second quarter.
However, Lexington couldn’t hold onto this momentum shift.
White Knoll quarterback Jhais McKiever got Lexington to bite on an initial run fake, creating a large cutback lane for himself. The pulling offensive lineman cut off the remaining defender, and McKiever ran untouched into the end zone, bringing the score 16-0.
White Knoll scored once more in the first half to go into the break up 23-0.
Attempting to turn the tide in the third quarter, Lexington called the fake punt that led to the Coyle touchdown pass to Headley.
The team tried for a two-point conversion to cut the game to 15, but failed. The Wildcats were at least on the scoreboard, despite trailing 23-6.
The Timberwolves quickly snatched the game's momentum back, as they scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, keeping the game completely out of reach. In the end, Lexington's defense was outmatched by White Knoll’s offense, resulting in the 37-6 score.
The Wildcat’s 2025-2026 season has been rocky, sitting at a tentative 3-6 overall and currently ranked 4th in the region.
Next week, the team travels to play its final match against its rival, River Bluff, hoping to close out the season with a win.
The winner of that game will clinch the conference's No. 4 seed, while the loser slides to fifth. Both teams will be in the playoffs.
