Lexingtonians cruise to Alaska

AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

Taking a summer vacation, some of our Lexington folks embarked on an Alaskan cruise and returned July 26.

Ironically, on the same cruise ship were Hamp and Jane Caughman, Cliff and Ginger Shealy and their friends Weston and Dawn Shealy, Joey and Helen Rivers and John and Reneé Howard.

Before boarding ship in Seattle, Hamp said they visited the Space Needle, 605 feet high, and its view from the top was magnificent. They sailed to Juno, Alaska, and took day tours, including a tram ride. There were sight-seeing shore excursions, including a whale watch and a visit to a dog sled training camp.

Weston says his favorite was Skagway, a laid-back town reminding him of his native Batesburg.

Hamp says his favorites were the magnificent snow-capped mountains, glaciers and beautiful scenery.

Sailing back to Seattle, they report a wonderful vacation. Weston says he is going back!

For a future cruise vacation, check out the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce exclusive travel program. It is offering a 7-night cruise to the Greek isles aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line. It sets sail May 24 from Venice, Italy, and returns May 31, 2020, with many delightful stops.

Contact Melanie Scarborough, an associate with Cruise Planners at 803-832-2526 or melaniescarborough@cruiseplanners.com by Sept. 1.

The Lexington Network of Female Executives held its monthly meeting at Travinia’s. JoDee Douda called the meeting to order and Kathy Foster introduced the speaker. She was Hima Dalal, the Lead Occupational Therapist and owner of Vital Energy Wellness & Rehab Center. She is a board certified, license occupational therapist with over 30 years experience.

New club officers were recognized: Bunny Hagenlocher, membership chair; Bev Gunter, treasurer; Beth McCrary, secretary; Cecilia McLendon, vice president; and Kathy Foster, president. The next meeting will be at Red Bowl of Lexington Aug. 27.

J.R. Fennell, director of the Lexington County Museum, says the summer events were a success. They included the annual Family Day, and Murders & Mysteries Tours of West Columbia and Lexington.

Family Day is always a big success as over 250 came out for a blacksmith demonstration, bubble making, and quill pen writing. Visitors were treated to hot dogs, chips and drinks while exploring activities of the past.

Lexington is proud

of Lexington High graduate Olivia Thompson, who is part of basketball Coach Dawn Staley’s best-in-the nation recruiting class of 2020. Olivia says she wants to perfect her shooting ability and be the best she can be. We look forward to watching her perform as a Gamecock.
