Lexington’s Pilgrim Lutheran Church launched a community event series to address rising concerns of youth mental health. The first two events of the series have been scheduled for Sept. 21 and Sept. 27.

Designed to help children, teens and their families better manage stress and anxiety, the series is titled “Navigating the Pressure: A Series of Events to Help Kids Thrive in a Stressed-Out World.”

According to a statement released by Pilgrim Lutheran, the series will bring together nationally recognized speakers, local experts and engaging experiences to better equip teens and their families to navigate real world pressures for today’s youth.

“We’ve heard from parents, teachers, and leaders across the community—and the message was clear: our young people are under more pressure than ever before,” Delores Steinhauser, a member of Pilgrim’s planning team, said in the press release. “This series is our way of responding with hope, resources, and support.”

The September events are open for registration.

Beyond the Scoreboard is on Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. It costs $20.

The featured speaker is former Major League Baseball Player Travis Snider.

“Committed to helping players develop a resilient sense of identity and self-worth and reach their potential on and off the field/court, Snider will discuss the stress and anxiety that today’s youth experience due to the pressure to succeed in sports and the immediate steps that parents, coaches, and mentors can take to prioritize well-being over perfection,” according to the release.

“Join local naturalist Captain Zach Steinhauser for a laid-back bird watching tour designed just for teenagers,” according to the release. “Known for his work with purple martins, Zach will guide you through the beauty of local wildlife—no pressure, no stress, just a chance to relax and reconnect with nature.”
