Fall toddlertime, books and beyond, preschool story-time, and TeenScene weekly programs have begun at the Gilbert-Summit Branch Library.

The storytime sessions are a fun way to introduce preschoolers to literature. Storytime includes books, storytelling, poetry and songs for children ages three to five years. Both programs are weekly from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

Books and Beyond, “Too Many Tamales,” will be held September 13, 3 p.m. Children will celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month during the class. They will explore the history, cultures and contribution of American citizens whose ancestors came from other countries. Gary Soto’s book “Too Many Tamales” will be read to the children. Books and Beyond is for children in grades Kindergarten to 5th grade. September 19 from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. the library will have Lego Mania. Children can use their imaginations and problem-solving skills to build different Lego creations.

Tech Talk: Hoopla and Libby will be held September 27, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Teens will explore the library’s newest digital resource named Hoopla and learn to download or stream music, movies, magazines, audio-books on their Ipads, phones and other devices using their library cards. They will discuss the Libby app for reading ebooks. For information, call 785-5387.

Gilbert Pack 60

Scouts, dressed in their uniforms, participated in the Gilbert High School football flag raising ceremony last week. Pack 60 Scouts would like to thank the community for their support of their recent barbecue fundraiser.

Gilbert High School held its annual Open House last week along with Senior Information Night. Teachers were available during the event to meet with students and their families.

Cotton Branch Animal Sanctuary received 20 rescued pot-belly pigs last weekend. The pigs were rescued from a farm in Kentucky. The pigs will stay at the farm until they are adopted by forever homes. CBAS was happy to receive monies from a generous anonymous donor. This donor will match funds for the animals at the farm that are adopted. CBAS is a nonprofit sanctuary that takes in abused and neglected farm animals. If you are interested in the adoptions or can help, complete the adoption and foster application. For information, visit www.cottonbranch.org/.

Birthday wishes this week go to Stanley Hallman, Matthew Bullard, Harold Taylor, Geoff Allshouse, Addy Corder, Ellen Goff, Lillie Mae Hayes, Adrienne Wolfe, Kelly Benson, JoAn Clamp, Miriam Arnold, Donna Harmon, Lillian Spears, Chase Umbarger, and Nickie Litrell.
