LICS is now ‘Mission Lexington’

Lexington Interfaith Services has a new name!

Director Robin Bowers announced at last week’s chamber breakfast that LICS will now be known as “Mission Lexington.”

“After 40 years of service to the Lexington County community,” Bowers said, “We are excited to announce a name change to Mission Lexington. Our Thrift Shop will be known as Mission Store. The changes come with a new visual brand, however the care for the community and services we offer remain the same.”

The new name is displayed on the new food and pantry truck that was parked at he breakfast site.

Keller Kissam, Senior Vice President of SCANA Corp. was the guest speaker. Members were reminded of the spring golf tournament coming up May 21 at the Country Club of Lexington.

The 29th annual Saxe Gotha Committee of 100 celebration was held May 8 at St. David Lutheran Church. The St. David Brass Ensembles entertained.

Ron Redd, president of the Saxe Gotha Lutheran Men in Mission called the meeting to order. Attendees enjoyed a country fried steak and grits dinner with all the trimmings. The meeting honored those who have made gifts to the committee for 25 consecutive years. They are Beth Caldwell, St. Stephen Lutheran; Linda S. Waters-Hamilton; Mt. Herman Lutheran; Thomas Tyson, St. James Lutheran; Sybil L. Quattlebaum. Mt. Tabor Lutheran; and Kerry R. Brown, St. Stephen Lutheran.

Lunch and Learn was held May 8 at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Following a tasty spaghetti lunch prepared by Joey’s Restaurant of Gilbert, guests enjoyed hearing Trish Shealy, a busy volunteer for the Lexington County Master Gardeners and Horticultural Department at Riverbanks Zoo. She spoke on hummingbirds, their likes and care.

Buff, Candy Dawkins, Jerry Keenan, Dorothy Keenan, David Taylor, Pamela Graham, Miriam McCoy, Sharon Trezise, Jane Thompson, Sandy Raymond, Connie Branham, Nancy Marsella, Gary Baker, Sandy Burton, Jerry and Donna Griffin, Joey Hardee, Rosemary Broom, Tina Stewart, and Mary Baker.

The next Lunch and Learn is May 12 with Fun on the Farm.

Best-selling author Mary Alice Monroe returns to the Lexington Main Library May 20, 3 p.m., to celebrate her new book, Beach House Reunion.

The annual Memorial Day Service at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, 503 N. Lake Drive, Lexington, is at 10 a.m. May 28. The public is invited.

The Lexington Woman’s Club May Yard of the Month was awarded to Dr. and Mrs. Charles Gatch, 129 Foxglen Road, Lexington. The sweeping corner lot is planted with an array of shrubs and trees that will provide inspiration to novice gardeners.
