Life at Ground Zero

Senior Living

Ground Zero is the technical name for the land directly beneath a nuclear bomb’s detonation.

That is the area that is most devastated.

We associate the term Ground Zero with the area of Manhattan where the Twin Towers collapsed.

We have all experienced defeats in life.

Some among us are now at their own Ground Zero after their lives were completely shattered by circumstances. Some have had to watch their health disappear gradually from disease. Others have been dealt a sudden blow that changed their lives forever.

Such is the case for a young man I know who is now a quadriplegic after breaking his neck on a BMX bicycle a couple of months ago.

Even at this seemingly impossible situation for him and his family, all is not lost because of hope.

They hope he will eventually come off of life support and breath on his own. They hope he may be able to swallow and eat again without a feeding tube.

They hope he can still have a meaningful life.

Even after death, they hope for his salvation in Jesus Christ and that he will one day receive a new body.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 1:21, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

For the believer of these words, there really can be no Ground Zero. There is no devastation so great that can keep God away.

There are not really any people who are hopeless.

They are just people who do not have hope – and there’s a difference. Jesus Christ is the hope for a brighter tomorrow in the worst situation.

Next Week: Share the joy
