The Lexington County Blowfish begin their season Wednesday, July 1.

Due to the corona virus pandemic, the Coastal Plain League delayed the start of their season from the last week of May to the first week of July.

A 46 game home and away schedule with 25 being home games at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

“We are excited to play baseball,” Blowfish co-owner Bill Shanahan stated. “We look forward to the day when we can safely open the ballpark to our fans and enjoy our National Pastime. We’re continuing to formulate the guidelines establishing the proper procedures for the safety of our players, staff and fans.”

This will be the 15th season of Blowfish baseball, and the 6th in Lexington County. The Blowfish will be under new leadership as Lexington native and former Clemson standout Matt Padgett begins his tenure as skipper.

As the season draws closer, we will begin introducing you to the players you will soon be able to see at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

Let’s begin with the returnees from the 2019 season. Local products Josh Senter, Aaron Adams, and Jared Kirven return to Lexington County for the 2020 season.

All 3 played a considerable amount of time last season, especially Kirven. The Lexington Wildcat alum, and current College of Charleston Cougar was the best defensive catcher for the Blowfish last season.

As injuries mounted late in the year, Kirven became the everyday catcher, tallying 10 RBI that put him in the top half of the team in that category.

Senter returns as well, having had his 2019 summer cut short due to injury. The River Bluff Gator and North Greenville Crusader amassed 10 RBI and 2 home runs in 2019 and led the team in stolen bases with eight (8/9).

Senter will be one of many outfielders on the Blowfish roster and it will be interesting to see how Coach Padgett balances the playing time between many solid players.

Adams, a fellow River Bluff alum and North Greenville product, returns for his third season with the Blowfish. Adams joined Lexington County later in the 2019 season as a replacement for several injured teammates. Over his two seasons with the Blowfish, Adams is batting .256 with 4 doubles and 7 RBI.
