Local singers to perform at Carnegie Hall

2 Lexington County choral groups will perform Sunday, April 28, at New York’s Carnegie Hal.

The White Knoll High School Varsity Choir under the direction of Cheryl Felder and the Carolina Midland Chorale under the direction of James Johnson will perform one of the most beloved works of choral music, the Gloria of Antonio Vivaldi.

Johnson will conduct the massed choir of more than 135 voices and the New England Symphonic Ensemble.

“This is my third time performing in Carnegie Hall, but my debut as a conductor,” Johnson said.

“I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to return once again to Carnegie. It is a truly a dream come true to be on the podium this time, conducting many of my former and current singers.”

“The hope for my students is that they see what an impact they can have on the world around them as a musician,” said Cheryl Felder. “It is my desire that they continue to sing with passion and with confidence, knowing that they’ve had this amazing experience by performing in Carnegie Hall.”

The Vivaldi Gloria dates from 1715. It is one of his most popular works, even though it was only rediscovered in 1939.
