Lexington County moms finally had a Mother-Son Dance to attend, thanks to Girl Scout Troop 1639.

Troop 1639 hosted the dance Feb. 9 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in downtown Lexington.

The event’s theme was I Love You to the Moon and Back. The troop sold 400 tickets in just over a week. They hope to make it an annual event.

Over 175 moms attended with their sons ranging in age from toddlers to middle schoolers.

The families enjoyed refreshments, face painting, two photo booths, corn hole and other activities. The dance floor was packed all evening, led by a live DJ.

Each mom received a pink carnation.

Raffle tickets were sold with 100% of the benefits being donated to Special Olympics, where the girls in Troop 1639 plan to volunteer again this year.

The troop also collected canned goods for Mission Lexington.

“We are overwhelmed with the positive response from families and from local businesses that donated items for our charity raffle,” said Troop 1639 Leader Missy Moore.

“Our troop worked hard to give these families an enjoyable evening they will remember for years to come, and we are excited about the possibility of the Mother-Son Dance becoming an annual event.”

Troop 1639 would like to thank St. Stephens Lutheran Church and the local community for supporting this fund-raising effort. Proceeds will allow the troop to continue its annual Backpacks for the Homeless effort and other charitable activities.
