Malfunction junction plan finally underway

Posted

The SC Department of Transportation is moving on its top state interstate priority.

The Carolina Crossroads I-20/26/126 Corridor Improvement Project is now accepting qualification statements from those interested in contracting on the project.

“Malfunction Junction” – the I-20, I-26 and I-126 interstate corridor – serves as the major hub for the Midlands’ commuters, travelers and commerce.

When complete, the Carolina Crossroads Project will improve mobility and reduce traffic congestion in the corridor. The improvements will be on:

• I-20 from west of the Saluda River crossing to the Broad River.

• I-26 from Broad River Road to US-378.

• I-126 from I-26 to east of Colonial Life Boulevard.

The 10-year project is expected to cost between $1.4 and $1.6 billion and consists of 14 interstate miles and 12 interchanges.

For more information, visit www.SCDOTCarolinaCrossroads.com or call the Project Hotline at 800-601-8715. An expected completion date has not been announced.
