Gilbert High School held its annual Miss GHS 2019 beauty pageant over the weekend. Congratulations to Malory Best, who was crowned Miss GHS 2019. Jordan Abney was crowned Miss Senior GHS, and runners up were Madison Cooke and Kayla Harris. Chelby Drafts was crowned Miss GHS Junior and runners up were Jordan Keisler and Madison Stalvey. Emily Davis was crowned Miss GHS Sophomore and runners up were Allison Keisler and Aidenne Velders.

National School Counselor Week was held recently nationwide. Gilbert High School has three counselors they appreciate and recognized for all of their hard work: Gretchen Crosswell, Jennifer Adams, and Dr. Lisa Allison.

VFW Lake Murray Post 6740 invites you to its HoeDown March 9 at 5 pm. The Auxiliary will host a chili cook off with judging at 6:15 pm. Enjoy a barbecue dinner at 6:30 pm and entertainment provided by a country western band at 7 pm. Cost is $5 with donations benefiting veterans. Post 6740 is at 550 Rock N Creek Road off of US

Students at Gilbert Middle School have raised money to name a Lab puppy who would become a Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services dog. GMS students named the young pup Chief. Chief now works with David’s Table Inc. in Greenville. His owners hope that through Chief’s work he has made the students at GMS very proud of him.

Hollow Creek Community Center members celebrated Valentine’s Day last week. The center provided dinner for them. Timmy Koon prepared his delicious and famous chicken stew for everyone. Afterwards, members played Valentine’s Day bingo for nice gifts that Cupid provided. HCCC members Delle Price, Mary Ann Sease, and Pat Fulmer were recognized as having birthdays in February. The HCCC meets the second Thursday of each month. For information, call Dale Swygert at 892-6501.

The Gilbert-Summit Library has a good selection of children’s books for sale. Books are fifty cents each or a bag for $3. They also have books on CD and some DVDs for sale. For info, call the library at 785-5387.
