Man dies, child critical in SC 6 crash

A man has died and a child is in critical condition after a crash on South Lake Drive south of Red Bank in Lexington County.

Charles Lamar Chestnut, 22, of Lexington, was traveling westbound towards Lexington when at the the 2300 block of South Lake Drive at approximately 3 am on Sept. 12 his vehicle went off the left side of the roadway, struck several trees and then overturned, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher stated.

Chestnut, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A juvenile in the vehicle was ejected and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

An investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol is ongoing.
