The Palmetto State School Counselor Association recently named Brandy Ludlam the 2021 Middle School South Carolina Counselor of the Year.

Ludlam currently serves as school counseling director at Carolina Springs Middle School.

Ludlam joined Lexington District One 8 years ago as a school counselor at Midway Elementary. She transferred to CSMS in 2018.

The award recognizes professionals who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to school counseling and their students.

“Mrs. Ludlam makes a positive difference in the lives of our students, their parents, and in the community through leadership, collaboration and management of the program,” said CSMS Principal Dr. Brice Cockfield.

Ludlam holds a Bachelor of Arts in experimental psychology, as well as an Educational Specialist degree, from the University of South Carolina.

“I chose to become a school counselor because I wanted to be that person who students felt they could come to for support. I want to make a difference in their lives and advocate for them. I love watching my students grow and plan for their future,” said Ludlam.

She also serves on the governing board of the Palmetto State School Counselor Association.

The PSSCA is a statewide nonprofit organization which works to advance the profession of school counseling by assisting South Carolina school counselors with guiding their students toward academic achievement, career planning and social-emotional development.
