Mission Lexington breaks ground on new campus

Mission Lexington ceremonially broke ground on its North Lake Street campus Friday, Aug. 28.

"This day represents far more than the start of a construction project," Amy Reeves, CEO of Mission Lexington, said in a news release. "It represents what is possible when a community comes together around a shared purpose. Every gift, every volunteer hour, every prayer and every partnership is bringing us to this moment.”

Days before the groundbreaking ceremony, Mission Lexington announced the selection of Fitts & Goodwin Inc. as general contractor and McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture as architect.

“Todd Sease and Lori Long of McMillan Pazdan Smith and Anne Bell and Thomas Fitts of Fitts & Goodwin will serve as key partners to Mission Lexington leadership throughout the project,” the release says.

Mission Lexington is a faith-based nonprofit organization that provides emergency financial assistance, food programs, clothing resources, volunteer engagement and community partnerships. The charity launched its “Mission on the Move” fundraising campaign to support construction of a new headquarters.

“Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of individuals, churches, businesses, foundations, civic organizations and community partners, the campaign has reached a pivotal milestone, and construction is ready to begin,” the news release says.

"We are honored to partner with both Fitts & Goodwin and McMillan Pazdan Smith as we begin building a place that will allow us to serve more neighbors with dignity, compassion and hope for decades to come,” Reeves said. “‘Mission on the Move’ is no longer just a vision, it is becoming a reality."

McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture designed the new campus at 1430 N. Lake Drive. Mission Lexington’s current headquarters is located at 216 Harmon St.

“The new facility will enable the organization to meet the increasing demand for services while positioning Mission Lexington for continued growth and impact throughout Lexington County,” the release says. “Mission Lexington currently serves as one of Lexington County's primary providers of crisis assistance, meeting more than 69,000 needs annually (and) helping individuals and families regain stability and hope.”
