Mission Lexington collects food, gifts

Posted

Around 20 Mission Lexington volunteers worked at the Lexington Walmart to collect donations Saturday, Dec. 7.

They were collecting food, clothes, toys, toiletries and other items for the annual Fill a Trailer event.

All of the items will be distributed to people in need around Lexington County.

By 5 pm, the van was full.

James Storrs, who coordinated the event, said he didn’t know how many shopping cart loads he had put into the van, but it was a lot.

Robin Bowers, Mission Lexington executive director, said that they have 125-130 volunteers a week.

They sort clothes, put food items in their food pantry, deliver goods and work in the thrift shop.

“I could replace all of my staff with volunteers, but I could not replace any of the volunteers,” added Bowers.
