Mission Lexington receives $4K donation

Ground not yet broken on the Mission's future facility in Lexington County

Mission Lexington has received a donation of $4,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, enabling the organization to further help Lexington County locals.

“Food insecurity in our area is very real. We feed over 2000 neighbors monthly at our Lexington location and an additional 200-300 through our mobile food pantry,” Mission Lexington CEO Amy Reeves said in a press release. “With the recent SNAP benefit crisis, that number escalated significantly and our community has blessed us by answering the call. We are honored to have the support of Food Lion as a part of this effort. Our corporate partners are such a valuable component to our success, and we are truly grateful to Food Lion for this contribution.”

This donation comes over three months after Mission Lexington officially announced its future move to a new property.

According to October 2024 reporting from the Chronicle, the organization's current home at 216 Harmon St. in Lexington is filled with pantry items, home essentials, clothes, pet food and more, necessitating more space.

Focused on expanding its services in food assistance, financial support and provision of other essential resources, this organization, at over 47 years old, will eventually break ground on a new home at 1426 N. Lake Dr. next to Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

The building plans cover 25,000 square feet, including an in-store food pantry, confidential interview rooms, a dedicated children's area and a larger Mission Store. The new building site will also include adequate parking.

St. Peter's, Pisgah, St. Stephen's and Pilgrim Lutheran churches are credited with the charity's founding.

"Mission Lexington was founded in 1978 on the vision of 4 churches and the intention of helping families and individuals in crisis," according to the press release. "With $250 the mission was born and now, 47 years later, Mission Lexington has become a major resource in the county serving over 40,000 needs annually. The growth and depth they have experienced continues to be a blessing. From providing social services, a food pantry that feeds 25,000 annually, including 10,000 children, a thrift store supporting monetary needs of our neighbors, and a group of over 400 community volunteers - the mission is bursting with activity. As a part of the growth the mission always welcomes your contributions."
