Mission Lexington has been awarded $5,000 from United Way of the Midlands.

The money came from the Covid-19 Response Fund to Support Community Impact Partners in Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Newberry, Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties.

This grant will allow Mission Lexington to continue assisting Lexington County residents who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with shelter expenses.

The expenses may include rent, mortgage payments, electric, water, sewer and propane bills.

Robin Bowers, Executive Director of Mission Lexington, said, “We have seen a consistent increase in community needs since covid-19, and our neighbors have been so grateful.”

The pandemic has placed a tremendous financial burden on families and individuals, said Sara Fawcett, President and CEO of United Way of the Midlands.

“These funds will help meet the rising needs facing our neighbors who are being impacted by the pandemic,” Fawcett said.

“We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the Covid-19 Response Fund to make these grants possible.”

The funds will help support Mission Lexington’s community programs.

Bowers said though some operations have changed, it has not changed the love, donations and support they get from the community.

Mission Lexington’s Kids Cadet program introduces children to community service. It was switched from a live on campus activity to an online learning activity.

Over 100 kids completed the program and did amazing work for the community.

ML’s annual school supply drive had a tremendous impact on families needing supplies for kids returning to school.

The food pantry has been bustling with activity trying to help people stretch their food budget.

The thrift store is open from 9 am-12:45 pm, Monday through Friday.

Stayed tuned for more updates.
