More money flows into West Columbia

West Columbia businesses put more money in their bank accounts last year.

Vaughan Dozier, regional manager for Lexington-based First Community Bank in West Columbia, says fiscal year 2017-18, was a good year. The numbers show that.

“We just received the FDIC’s (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s) Summary of Deposit Market Share,” said Dozier.

In the 29169 zip code, Dozier said deposits were $557 million in fiscal year 2017-2018, up from around $488 million the year before.

West Columbia is the third-largest municipality in the six-county area that makes up the Columbia Metropolitian Statistical Area. Only Columbia and the Town of Lexington have higher populations.

West Columbia’s population has increased by about 2,000 people in the last two years because of the annexation in the Springdale area and in US 1 corridor.

By the end of July, West Columbia had issued about 2,300 business licenses.

That was equal to the number of business licenses issued in all of 2017.
