The clean-up project at Oaklawn was a big success. 18 people, 3 trucks and trailers, lots of rakes, tarps, clippers, pole saw, chain saw, etc. helped clean up a stretch along the fence, rake leaves and remove worn flower arrangements.

Another day will be scheduled to complete the project as only about a 3rd of the area was cleaned in 4 hours. The project was a joint effort of the Pelion Ruritan and the American Legion Pelion Post 101. Thanks to Steve Acuff, Hawk Betts, Mark and Barbara Bays, Kay Collings, Lori Griffin, Lorraine Hayes, David Daniel, Kell Daniel, Jill Godfrey, David Mills, Janet Mikosky, Shannon Merrill, Angie Olawsky, Chief John Rebolj, Tony Sun Nicolas, Frank Shumpert, and David Williams.

The 7th annual Ruritan Veterans Memorial service will be Monday, May 31, at 10 am. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the Soldiers of Faith, Ed Wilkes on bagpipes and PHS Band director Justin Craig. The flag ceremony will feature Tom Peel, our oldest living veteran. The flag was given by Rep. Ryan McCabe. Speaker will be Lt. Col. JD Evans of Ft. Jackson.

Happy Anniversary to Clarence W. and Mary A. Wagner who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 23.
