Mt. Horeb hosts Night to Shine

Church Buzz

While living in the Phillipines with his missionary parents, Tim Tebow met a young boy named Sherwin whose feet were backwards.

That birth defect was considered a curse in the remote village where he lived.

Tebow spent time with him and showed him love and acceptance. When people saw him hold Sherwin, they knew that the good news of Christ was for everyone.

It isn’t surprising that Tebow is passionate about helping kids with disabilities or special needs gain acceptance and have experiences.

One way his foundation does that is through the “Night to Shine” prom program. The events are hosted by over 500 churches around the country. They are held the Friday before Valentine’s Day.

Mt. Horeb UMC in Lexington is hosting their second event on February 8. The event is like any high school prom, and all of the guests are special needs children.

Attendees dress up in their prom attire for some dining, dancing and entertainment by local DJ. They also get limo rides, goody bags and have their photos taken and framed.

They are treated as kings and queens for the night. As the guests arrive, they have their names announced over the PA and are introduced to their volunteer chaperone for the night.

Night to Shine proms turn a romantic holiday event into one that celebrates God’s love for people with special needs. And it is a memorable time for the honored guests, volunteers and families.
