Museum gala was fabulous affair

If you weren’t at Lexington’s museum gala Saturday, you missed out of the best!

Held at the Lexington Municipal Compex, this year’s theme was Love Letters From the Past: Honoring Our Veterans.

Copies of letters were placed on the tables to recognize the the veterans who had written their loved ones back home.

Attendees browsed through the silent auction while enjoying Rhoten’s famous country sausage provided by Wes Rhoten.

Museum President Sylvia Clyburn welcomed guests and the Rev. John Derrick gave the invocation. Scott Hall Catering served a buffet dinner. Museum Director J.R. Fennel gave a brief talk and Constance Flemming sang a medley of armed forces songs. Veterans in the crowd stood for their branch song.

Teddy McGee led the live auction bidding for pearls donated by Dawn Corley and an original painting by Dawn Caldwell. Frank Macaulay led the Great Society Band for the night’s dancing.

It was a busy week in Lexington:

• The Courage Center held its 2nd annual Valentine’s Day Celebrity Breakfast and Silent Auction at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. USC Athletic Director Ray Tanner spoke.

• The Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce held its monthly breakfast at Radius Church. Featured speaker was Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall, who gave an updatea on the town’s projects and plans. Recognized guests were members of the Lexington School Dsitrict One board and the district’s Teacher of the Year Alecia Clamp of Rocky Creek Elementary School.

• Lunch and Learn at Shiloh United Methodist Church featured heart attack survivor Bruce Carter, who shared how to have a healthy heart. The March 12 meeting will featured Carolyn Rightsell speaking on vermicomposting. Call Donna Griffin, 359-7586, for details.

• A Valentine’s Sweetheart Tea was held at the Lexington Senior Center, complete with a presentation on the history of tea making by Anell Sauerino. Dot Tumey was recognized as the oldest present at 100 years and Lynn Eargle won the hat contest with a lovely pink creation.
