This is news that will interest business owners looking for qualified people.

Turning Pages adult literacy tutoring has named 6 new board members.

The board is committed to ensuring that the nonprofit continues to help adults in need improve their reading and math skills with free 1-on-1 tutoring. This will help make them better qualified for better paying jobs.

New members include:

• Chair Chris Keefer, director of Richland County Government & Community Services and a tutor.

• Amber Peoples, a data specialist for the SC Department of Education.

• Dr. Saundra Carr, a SC Commission on Higher Education administrator.

• Tiffany Moore, a Babcock Center employment specialist and instructor.

• Janie Kronk, an architect and project manager.

• Whitney Jett, a SC Commission on Higher Education program coordinator.

These new members join veteran board members Dr. Jennifer Almeda and Peggy Miller and officers Miriam Calamaro and Steve Riley.

Turning Pages seeks an executive director to succeed Calamaro who intends to leave to teach.

Founded in 1968 as the Greater Columbia Literacy Council, Turning Pages has trained over 1,500 literacy tutors and as many as 500 adult learners in a year.
